Senior Citizens (voters 65 years of age or older) may apply for the program by completing the General Application for Absentee by Mail Ballot and checking that they are a senior citizen. They have the option of choosing to receive an absentee ballot only for one election or for all future elections.

The deadline to submit this application is 4:30 p.m. on the 4th day before the election.

Voters with Disabilities

Voters who are physically unable to vote in person at the polls on Election Day and unable to vote in person at the Registrar’s Office may be eligible for the special program for physically handicapped voters.

Proof of disability must be filed with the Registrar of Voters either in person or through the mail and includes:
1. A complete physician’s form
2. Copy of a current mobility impaired ID card issued by the OMV
3. Copy of a current documentation showing eligibility for disability benefits from either social security, veterans, paratransit services, Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities or benefits from Louisiana Rehabilitation Services.

Incarcerated Voters & Voters with Felony Convictions

Your right to vote is only suspended for a felony conviction while you are incarcerated, on parole, or on probation.  Once your sentence—whatever that is—has been completed, there is no restriction on your voting rights. However, the registrar of voters periodically is informed of people who have been convicted of felonies and will purge those names from the voter rolls.

Therefore, you may need to register again. Click here to see if you are still registered with the Registrar of Voters.  If your name has been purged, click here (scroll down to the bottom of the page) to re-register.
